It's only fear.

I sometimes wonder if I'm "hurting" myself by being selective of the technologies I use. If I'm denying myspace and twitter in favor of facebook / livejournal, am I, as an artist, hurting my chances of establishing notoriety? Plenty of successful artists have censured publicity / promotion, but I am not J.D. Salinger. Especially since I am using one over the other. Also: why fight the trend? What is the benefit of fighting the current? Some kind of imaginary cool that I've invented?

its best to embrace all & nothing!
just do what you want to flippin do!
it also takes a certain arrogance to be an artist.
i should know for i am not so + i suffered for it.
bein cocky gets you staying progressively OUT THERE in peoples' faces.
im not saying be a doosh, but your presence can be seeded out there so easily.
tumblr
lj
fb
myspacer
twatter
blogspot
forums etc!

one of the best ways is how youve done commissions though. word of mouth is always the best! people vouching for you! + i have yet to make homemade business cards. wtf is wrong with me!? partly due to printer ink being so goddamned expensive!

Simply put, are all artists sculptors, painters, writers, performers? Do you use all meduim? ink, charcoal, paint, pencil, crayon, blood on cave wall? You use the tools you want, like and have ability with. Its not limiting, but more of a concentrated effort.

I meant more the websites I use more than the tools...but I'm trying new stuff there, too!

I join along with something until it bores me.

Of course...
I found out my best friend was pregnant via Facebook.
I found out my brother was engaged via MySpace.
And a week ago I found out my mom was in the hospital via Twitter.

I could fight it on principle, but sometime it's easier to just play along and let it run its course. And hell, if you can have fun in the process (and maybe keep yourself informed and furhter your own cause), then you've conquered it. Amirite?!

by exercising selectivity, you are preserving the integrity and consistency of your message. wily nily slapdash output all over the place has good points, but in the end i think it's important to use whatever you're comfortable with and not force adoption of new networking tactics if you're not interested in it. in regards to marketing your work, it certainly does help, but...

Well if you join Twitter I'm PaintedGirl and Twitter is more fun then you think. At frist I thought it was useless but I joined to see what the fuss was about and now I can follow some of my favorite artist and ask advice easily.
You might want to look into it.
