So I had a small surprise show at the Autonomous Workshop with my pal Farra. I found out I could show at 10am that Friday, and was installing by 5pm. Luckily I happen to keep everything and had a few things I'd never show before, so it was really fun. Sold some shit. Here's some photos.

Here's some of Farra's stuff. I really love it.

So what did I learn from the show? There's no good reason not to do this again with better planning. I've got a couple ideas for shows and a couple of galleries I'm going to try and sell them to. One of the ideas I feel is pretty amazing, but it's really close to an idea a peer had. The real fuck of it all is that it would be an incredibly immersive project (therefore awesome) and her's isn't. I feel like it's a "go big or go home" scenario. Ah well. Enough vagueness. Here's some more things.

I modeled for Tamar's sleep photo piece. It's about the things that keep you up at night. My main concern in life right now is that I'm not working hard enough. I also fell asleep twice while she was photographing me. I'm second from the left (Tamar is laying on the floor).

This is me with Hailey and Colleen.

Colleen's leaving in a few weeks, which sucks, because I've really grown fond of her. I've come to realize that for as long as I stay in this town, every semester I will make at least one friend who will move away by the end of it.

Bayou has become a pretty big fan of baked goods. One day last week he scarfed down an entire sour cream pound cake. The next day he ate a bunch of muffins that Mallory made. Apparently he barfed the next day. I did not witness it, but I'll bet he still thinks it was worth it.

Here's a drawing I did for a friend/derby girl who's in the hospital. Good practice, I guess...I'm definitely doing one of the derby posters next season. One of the other guys that is doing a poster is my good ol' pal Chris and the other one is the guy who put a tattoo on the back of my leg. I think I'm in good company.

This is a discarded version of a t-shirt design for a music festival here. I'm told "No humans, more anthropomorphic veggies." So this is just a drawing or something now.

Other than that stuff, I'm keeping pretty quiet I guess. I'm making a mix cd for someone; it's really depressing (both the music and the process). Sad songs are too damn good to be replaced by happy ones.

You know what I'm talking about.

I have to be quick about this because I have a lot of work to do today, but:

1. I have a painting in an auction preview tonight at the 621 Gallery. Buying it will help them keep their doors open a bit longer! So do it! (The actual auction is Nov. 14)

2. I have a few drawings AND a mixtape in the Autonomous Workshop show tonight. Can't buy these. I might easy the prints of the drawings later, but for now, you can check out some low-res versions and download the mix here! A bunch of my friends have pieces in this show as well.

3. Cave Creatures tonight at the BFA Warehouse. Aww, it's Lee's first performance piece. Cute! Me and some friends are going to have a lot of fun. This involves some of the following: hidden cameras, guitar, Lil Weezy, The Magnetic Fields, fruity loops, Twilight, Lost, and some markers. We seriously practiced for like 6 hours last night. Come check it out if you're in Tallahassee!

Also, that sculpture I painted that I posted last week garnished ~$50 for Big Brothers/Big Sisters! And the winner was "super excited" to have won it. Raddddddd.

I'm bleeding friends like a motherfucker on this site. I'll attribute that to the fact that LJ is dying and totally not because this blog is an exercise in vanity.

I'm still working, but I know I could be working harder. I don't know. I have a lot to do and none of the motivation to do it. I feel like I'm going through the motions.

I've been working on some pieces for a really fun show for November's First Friday. I'm also going to have a painting in the 621 auction AND I'm doing a collaborative performance with Jose and Tamar at the BFA Gallery. Tonight I need to finish painting a sculpture for a Boy's and Girl's Club fundraiser auction…and I need to start / finish 10 illustrations for a client this week. Couple my lack of motivation with the fact that there's a show I want to go to tonight, my Mom's house for dinner tomorrow, Breann coming in to visit on Friday, getting the house together for a Halloween party on Saturday…I'll probably have to cancel my Thursday attendance to the weekly video game session I've been having with some people. It's a loaded week.

I finally got to participate in a Tallahassee bike race this past weekend. Tons of awesome memories. It was Halloween themed, so I had a costume and shit. You know. There were a few keen checkpoints (such as the Zombie Apocalypse Obstacle Course, and this reverse bobbing for apples thing that Ouikut had.) There was a "Skaryoke" checkpoint where you had to sing Halloween/Punk songs while a live band played. Creeping through a graveyard looking for candy. And oh! Krank It Up (our bike co-op) had a couple of bikes to ride, one of which was a tall, fixed gear. I'd never ridden a tall bike or a fixed gear, but I owned that shit. I spent most of my time in the race with Aaron Amodt and Mike Harrington, but we called it a wash early on account of Aaron's busted tire. I think we still did about 10 miles, which felt good.

I am pretty stoked to be throwing a Halloween party.

That's not what this post is about. I can look back on the whole situation with clear thoughts, ones not muddled by emotion, and I can surmise this: from now on, when I devote myself to something, I damn well better be sure in regards to it's certainty. I'm not even just talking about relationships, this also can be applied to art, business, etc. Lots of wasted effort.

I used to be a process person, but now I'm starting to think that the end result is just as important. It's funny how I'm just now (post art school) making the connection that art is an allegory for love and vice versa.

It feels selfish, somehow.

I was recently asked to recount my favorite memory of snow. Here it is, if you're interested.

Musically, my parents raised me on The Beatles and The Doors. We didn't have TV, so my first discovery of rap music occurred while riding the bus to school. The driver would often play the contemporary pop music station, B103.9. This is when I first heard of Snow. His 1993 hit "Informer" was commanding the charts. Even though I could not understand the wily Canadian's fresh rhymes, his rhythmic prowess captivated me and opened me up to a completely new genre of music.

I know I've written about it before, but I find surprise immensely more inspiring than mystery. This is why, in my opinion, my once favorite-tv-show-of-all-time Lost has grown stagnant; when the show was based in reality, every strange thing that happened was surprising. Now, everything in that show is a fucking strange thing and nothing is surprising. There are no more crazy turns because crazy is the norm.

Well, thankfully for me, reality is very much still reality and we don't have to look to the television to find surprise. All it takes is a few zany people to prankishly break the norm and I'm inspired. baron_von_aaron sent me this link a few minutes ago about a food cart in Kashiwa, Japan that does just that.
Geek Night went off without a hitch (Here is Chris' recap). Here are some photographs. For proof.

Joe Christman drew this one.

One person wanted a Justin Timberlake sketch. I told her to come back later...she never did. So I posted this craigslist missed connection:

I was one of the artists at FSU's Geek Night. There I was, taking normal sketch requests for movie and comic book characters when you came out of nowhere and blindsided me with a request for a Justin Timberlake drawing. Odd, sure, but I've drawn worse. I told you to come back in a bit and I'd have it ready for you.

You never came back. You just left me with this embarrassing cultural artifact and forced me to defend myself against scrutiny from cosplayers. So help me god if I ever see you again I will NEVER EVER EVER draw you Justin Timberlake. He's talented, sure, but he hasn't done anything innovative in years.

Three hours later I get this from craigslist:

Hey I saw your post how you doin

Perfect.
